I joined this list so long ago that I had forgotten that I had :-)
In my case, I always liked Macs but due to work was forced to use a PC.
Then I found a Classic II plus Stylewriter II for $20 in a yard sale - and thought I'd see what I had missed. This was about 5 years ago. I was so impressed with that system - considering its age :-). I then started re-capturing what I had missed by purchasing all the Macs I could find in charity shop and yard sales. I'd fix them up and expand them out, each getting faster and faster.
Then I finally bought a G4 PowerBook (12" 867MHz running OSX). This made me re-think about my collection of older Macs, and I came to realize that I must separate hobby from work.
I decided I wanted to focus on OS 6, and should try to restrict my Mac collection to machines that are capable of running that. This way old Macs still feel as fast as modern ones.
My recipe for a fast OS 6 machine is:
1)Mac IIci
2)DayStar Power Cache 50Mhz 68030 + FPU in the PDS slot.
3)8Meg Ram
4)Apple AAUI ethernet nubus card, with Apple dongle (I like to watch the leds flash ;-))
5)FWB JackHammer SCSI NuBus card with a 68 pin (wide) ribbon cable.
6)Seagate Barracuda ST15150W 4Gb (partition into 2 x 2Gb) hard drive.
7)Radius PrecisionColor 8-Xj NuBus Video card
So mostly, email is the thing to do (unless this is your only computer :-).
Things I'd like (that still are compatible with OS 6):
1)MACTCP that works with DHCP servers.
2)An email program that will handle HTML (I prefer plain text - but the rest of the world does not)
"Number 6 is alive! Input! Need input!"
