Hi Mel,
Yes it works. I use it for (mostly) email and news groups at home.
The partition size can't exceed 2Gb, but the actual drive can be as big as you like with multiple partitions. It just looks like you have multiple hard drives on your desktop.
The ST15150W is the wide SCSI version i.e it has a 69 pin connector rather than the 50 pin style. This is better because it writes and reads 16 bit words rather than 8 bit, making it twice as fast (just for that reason alone and ignoring the faster drive and interface).
However, that's why you need a Jackhammer SCSI card. It allows a 69 pin cable, which the standard motherboard does not.
But the ST15150N is the same drive with a 50 pin interface. So it can be used directly in the IIci hooked up as normal. I have one of these in another IIci but I run OS 7.6.1 on that one, with one 4Gb partition (allowed in OS 7). I'm trying to think if I've used OS 6 with this setup. I know I did a lot of experiments. I'm pretty sure that it works provided that the disk is partitioned into 2Gb partitions.
You don't have to use the drives that I mention. In many ways these are not the best, they are hot, they pull a lot of current, and they are loud. But I got a large box of them.....
I used FWB Hard Disk Toolkit to format and partition these drives as they are not Apple rommed. However I believe you could use the modified version of the Apples disk setup that you can find at Gambas website. That also allows you to partition the disk.

I was surprised at this remark. Do I interpret that a 4GB drive with two 2GB partitions will work on a standard Mac IIci?
