Those of us using Plusses, Classics, and so on have had our hopes raised

are really talking about a System 6 browser for Mac IIs and above, right?

I cannot remember a product announcement or review which didn't leave me disappointed when I saw the goods. That doesn't mean we cannot dream. So please pack your Western cynicism in a bag. ;-)

You know, I'm STILL able, using MacWeb 1.1n and my Plus with internal and external
floppy drives, to dial-up and connect to the internet in text-mode. Delete graphics.
Yes, it crashes. Soon. But 8mhz. floppy drives and 4MB? C'mon! It's astounding all by itself that it can be done WITHOUT A HARD DISK, let alone with one.

Or (I think, but I'll have to try it again) Mosaic would do on the Plus.

This tempest really IS in a teacup when you realize that these Compacts are not for
ALL modern-day tasks. What they CAN do is pretty wild.

My Plus is capable of email. That's a point I brought out on my website. With MacTCP and
FreePPP or the like, you have dial-up connectivity if the ISP is benificent.

I enjoy seeing the Plus do this because of the literal impossibility of it. I don't want to
expect it to websurf, although I HAVE done this with it, and it is cool.

Because of System 6's continued availability, the excellence that was THEN is still
available to relive. It just flat makes an early Mac get up and go. And the programs
that are still available make it a very useable machine.
