With words like that, it's no wonder why these machines don't have the self-esteem to continue on in life. ;-) Seriously, these machines are worth what you're willing to pay for them. And even if you do pay twenty bucks for a "worthless" box, they can offer more than that in entertainment value -- nevermind utility. There are very few reasons why I don't use a 68030 or a 68040 for all of my work and pleasure needs. I can live with a shell account and a text-only email client. I do so to this day. I can live with a text-only web browser. I have done so for years. ClarisWorks is fine for most of my productivity needs. When it isn't I use OzTeX, which gladly chugs along under System 6. Actually, OzTeX, System 6, and a Macintosh IIfx probably saved my neck. It gave me a distraction free writing environment when I was finishing my final year of undergraduate studies. That is worth *more* than a few bucks if you ask me. Okay, so you can get a lot of this stuff for free. I picked a IIfx (I have two now!) out of the trash a few weeks back. It is a very nice machine. All it needed was RAM, a bigger hard drive, and a better video card. Most of that stuff can be retrieved for next to nothing, if not nothing at all. Similarly, I have snagged equipment which is "worth" hundreds of dollars for meer tens of dollars. But there is a snag: you can do so, but that doesn't mean that you will do so *when* you want the stuff. You must be willing to wait for the right thing to come along, and you must have the ability to store interesting hardware when it does come along (in case you want it in the future). Patience is great if you've been around for a while. You have the resources behind you, after all. It isn't so great if you're just starting out and don't have the resources. Anyhow, that's my take. Happy computing at the speed of a snail's thought. :) Byron. -- System6 is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> System 6 Heaven <http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/system_6_heaven.html> System6 info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/system6.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:system6@mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/system6%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
