+--------------+ !SUGGESTIONS! +--------------+ 1) As I've said before, time at work & what you have to use for work should not be counted against you. This should only apply to off work and free time.
2) Are we trying to live in 1993-1995 and use that time's software and do 2005 things, or are we trying to show what 1993 hardware can do in 2005? If it is hardware that we are trying to show can do 2005 things, we need to allow those 1993 pieces of hardware to run the most recent software available to them. (And Amiga 3000 running OS 3.9 can kick some serious booty). We are trying to demonstrate what they are capible of doing now, not what they were capible of doing in 1993. Get what I'm saying? 3) I believe we have said that no processing power beyond the Pentium I 60-66 mhz. I would imagine that would mean two things at that point: A) No hardware upgrades that add processors that would not have existed prior to March 1993. B) If there are processors on board that fit the timeline, they CAN be overclocked, since that was done a lot back then. (this also means that dual processing, and other things, as long as the processors existed prior to March 1993 would also be possible.) 4) I would like to suggest that the important aspect of the challenge is the computer made prior to 1993 itself, not some minor components, like added ram, newer hard drives, etc. Again, it is important to show what a system from 1993 can do. (Processors being the only exception here since we set the pentium release date barrier.). 5) (If we continue the restriction on the OS before March 1995, which hopefully we can throw out, then I I would also suggest...) Computers can not EMULATE an operating system newer than August 1995 of its own or any other platform. :) (this would mean that MagicMac, the ST emulator for the 68030-68040 Macs, would be out of the question.) :) 6) While some computers, like the Atari 800/XL/XE use PC's for virtual hard drive systems, it is understood that the slave computer must also be from before March 1993 as well. 7) Are we trying to one computer computer for month, or just any computer as long as it is from before March 1993? Can a person use a Tandy Model 100 for a portable computer, and then download it to a Atari ST when they get home for example? Once we feel comfortable with the rules and the dates are set, JUST SAY THE WORD AND I'LL GET ATARI & AMIGA USERS IN ON THIS. THEY WOULD LOVE TO DO THIS I'M SURE! :D (Bummer about the Newton users..
