I do understand the distinction between plain old ringtones (which you
pick yourself) and "caller tunes" as Tmobile is calling them (which the
caller picks). My stance is the same. I personally could care less
about ringtones or caller tunes. I won't be buying any, and if other
buy caller tunes so that my phone will ring with that tune when they
call me, I don't care one way or another. As long as I can hear the
tone and receive it, the ring is pretty inconsequential. I think you're
right thought that Tmobile is trying to appeal to the teen/early20's
market. Most of their advertising caters to this market. Unfortunately
there are instances where they refuse to consider anyone outside of this
market. This was the case with the Sidekick. For over a year, users
were clamoring for outlook synch capability for the phone, and it
finally came out on another provider, so the software was available but
Tmobile basically said that they had no plans to offer it. This is
probably because they figured their target market for the device (but in
fact by far not the only ones who bought the phone for its advanced
functionality, especially in its first year or so) would not care about
this functionality. They eventually offered this capability, but by
then I and many others had finally had enough of getting ignored by
Tmobile and switched to a Treo 600 or something similar. Contractual
issues prevented me from switching providers, but that may change in the
future...
