With the Sidekick SIM , I would log into my account on the web and change my phone to something other than Sidekick or Blackberry. Then go to services and check T-Mobile Web ($5.99), without unchecking Sidekick plan. You can then test data, and uncheck it later (its pro-rated on your bill).
Then you are using wap.voicestream.com through the proxy (after adding the proxy hack on the iPhone). By the way, after using the iPhone, your web page indicates that they cannot determine the phone you are using. No big deal. As far as data charges, T-Mo doesn't charge by the kb, so there is no overage. I've been surfing over the proxy for several years.
