I've heard mixed results with people using a proxy to access the web
other than the basic T-Zones, but from what I've heard it works for
some but not all.

If you have prepaid you can use Sidekick but you need to have customer
care make changes to your account.  With prepaid sidekick you can do
unlimited email, web surf and unlimited domestic IM.  It is $1 per day
even on days when you may not use the service.  Voice calls are
15ยข/minute for all denominations of PINs/card values.  AFAIK you cannot
"tether" a laptop to a Sidekick.
