Rene, Thanks for your response. Problem solved. I am running my Quirky 6.1.4, that was built early in 2013 from binary pkgs that I compiled in T2. This time I did not mess up the linux-headers, left it at the default 3.14. This time, gzip compiled, gcc compiled, in stage 0. Regards, Barry
