I should also note that it is required to install this: http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky6/x86/packages/pet_packages-quirky6/devx-6.1.4-quirky.pet PET packages are the native package format for Quirky and Puppy Linux. The "devx" package installs everything needed for compiling. Just download it and click on it to install.
