I've come to this post a bit late. All the weaving I do is in wool: either
single or two ply (it's very thin actually) or hand spun. It's cheaper to buy
the wool on a cone than in balls. I normally aim for weaving wool rather than
knitting as the latter is too fluffy. Hand spun wool can be a bit lumpy
(especially if I've spun it) and sometimes "sticky", however, the colour change
as the light bleaches it - particularly with natural black - can add to the
weave.

Because I weave for re-enactors the wool has to be similar in thickness to
stuff found. I can't recall who I got my last lot off of as I buy quantities at
a time (cheaper). If your interested I'll look back in my past accounts.
