Hello Margaret,

Well of course I use icelandic wool, but it is mostly factory yarn ( ISTEX
is the icelandic yarn factory), I use two kinds of yarns first a one-ply
4.5 (4.500 meters / kilo) I use 2 or 3 threads in each hole, this yarn is
made of icelandic sheep wool wich is rather coarse, and a smoother and
fluffy yarn made from imported wool, it is 3 or 4 ply.
In the old days when wool was hand spun, the women often separated the
guard hair from the inner hair, from the inner hair they spun a fine fluffy
yarn often used for knitting underwear, from the guard hair they spun a
fine shiny yarn ( look a little bit like linnen yarn) wich was used for
weaving (specialy tablet weaving )this was a very strong yarn, it was
oftenly plant dyed, then they also spun yarn with the two hairs combed
together generaly used both for weaving (Loom) and knitting . Usualy the
yarns where 2 ply.
