Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

Guido, have you tried weaving designs in 2-strand warp twining? There is
an example of a band collected in Sumatra, along my technical reproduction,
and a few details about how I wove it at
<http://www.lindahendrickson.com/sumatra-reproduction.htm>.

Some TWeavers may not yet realize that more complex designs can be created
when using *fewer* threads rather than more per tablet, because you have
greater control over individual threads. I find it more interesting to
weave designs in which I need to turn individual tablets in each row to
create a design. Weaving with just 2 threads per tablet will give you a
lot of design freedom.

Have you tried weaving with wire, or using a reed to space out the tablets
and create soft, drapeable scarves? There are many unexplored
possibilities using different weave structures, or a combination of
structures, including gauze weave, warp twining and basket weave. See
photos of experimental ideas at <http://www.lindahendrickson.com/twexper.htm>.
