Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques
For anyone interested in research, a challenging area is the history of tablet weaving in Asia. Here are a few things I would like to know: Are the Bakhtiyari of Iran still weaving their traditional 3/1 twill pack bands and horse headdresses? Are the Tibetans still weaving their traditional belts? I know of one Tibetan refugee in Connecticut who occasionally weaves these... Are there other Tibetans living in the USA who are actively practicing this tradition? What connections existed (or still exist) between Buddhism and tablet weaving? TTW mentions "the manufacture of monks' girdles in Burma". Did the use of TW for monks' belts extend beyond Burma? Was tablet weaving ever done in Afghanistan?
