Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

Hello to the list and Happy Holidays!

So here I was, casually leafing through a new book called "From the Land of
the Thunder Dragon: Textile Arts of Bhutan" that I'd picked up at a museum
in DC because it was on sale. And once again, I was amazed to find tablet
weaving jumping out at me! Apparently tabletwoven bands are a traditional
textile in Bhutan, and it is hypothesized that it came from Tibet where the
TW loom is called "kothag" (leather loom) because the tablets are typically
made of animal hide. Well, I'll be darned!

Does anyone have any further information about tablet weaving in this area of
the world? History? Designs? Etc.? From the pictures in this book, it
seems that they are doing brocaded TW. Ah.
