normally the +20% formula works very well. It depends a lot on how you
do your weaving. If I do it in a non-continous warp and work properly
with selvage tablets I use something like +30% of the desired length and
this really works in all cases. If you use a continuos warp you can use
the +20% formula, even if in my experience a +15% is enough (mostly
depending on the twisting of the salvage tablets).

Nevertheless there are so many factors that influence the length you
could get that all these formulas are only of course rough
approximations that I use to get a desired "minimum" length.
