I use the following formula, which I think was from Candace Crocket's book.
(It was certainly something I picked up when I first learnt how to TW)

final length x 1.2 + 50cm = warp length (the 50cm being for the tablets).
I'll often then round the figure up to the nearest metre. Sometimes I will
multiply by 1.5.

Its worked so far, although the final length does still depend upon threads
and what type of weaving I'm doing.
