Hi Brian,

My dh has worked up some patterns on the computer before to account for the 3:1 ratio.  I've also found that if I make every block two threads wide (especially useful when doing an S and Z, or \ /, balanced warp).  Every chevron equals one block in the design.

Subject: elongation of patterns

Dear List,
I'm interested in remarks on avoiding elongation of patterns when using double-face weaving.  When trying to mimic the Lion with Flaming Tail from O. Staudigel's book (shown on page 100), my version is much more vertical and resembles a cross between a giraffe and a cow.  Is this a function of tensioning, beating or thread size?  I was using 16/2 linen, beating substantially, and created a band (36 cards pattern area) that was 2.5 cm wide.  The character was 8 cm tall (44 picks).  This is not nearly the proportion of his example.  Any advice would be helpful, since I don't want all my animals to be "mythological."  Thanks, Brian Doggett, Lafayette, IN
