I'm especially interested in those of you who use buckles with tongues.
I've always assumed that the material around the holes would stretch and
take a lot of additional wear,

Worse than that, I assume it would tear. However, there's an easy solution. A good sewing catalogue, website, or full-service sewing shop should have a metal eyelets and a tool for inserting them. Or simply Google "metal eyelets" and see what your choices are. You'll want to use the smallest eyelet you can get away w/ & still have the buckle tongue fit through, since these eyelets aren't exactly beautiful. Another option might be to make (by machine or by hand) a very tiny buttonhole. If you do this by hand, you could use some of the same fiber you've used in creating the belt, making your belt hole practically disappear into the band.
