I'm actually thinking more from an historical perspective.  I think the
eyelets are a relatively recent invention.

On a completely separate note, if anyone knows anything about dyes used for
cotton in Ethiopia in the 16-1700's I'd appreciate the information.  I'm
hoping to do a little re-creation weaving if I ever find some spare time (I
have to weave a baby blanket first :-).
