Thanks for the info!  If it was made in Persia it would explain why the pattern
doesn't look Anglo-Saxon.  Still, I admit to being astonished at how well
preserved it is.
 
The ?Persian provenance for the manufacture is pure fancy, I believe.  The patterning, on the other hand, is definitely influenced by central Asian motifs.  If anyone is interested, do follow up with the references I've given after the band info on p. 278 of EPAC.
