backrest=yes/no has been proposed years ago and is already being used: http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org:8001/keys/backrest#values So there's no need to invent backrest=none when we already have "no". Additional values are fine, of course. The "middle" value would be useful for benches mapped as a node, too.
