Despite a pretty small consensus about that, it's the most consistent way to let mappers use power=* to describe hosted features. Nevertheless, using man_made=tower requires to add an extra tag to give the usefulness of the tower. tower:type=* is usually used to give this information. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:tower:type#Tower_types Some power poles may be used to roll out telecoms lines.
