Just to clarify: In Germany you have either zebra markings or traffic lights, NEVER both. Zebra marking means that road traffic has to stop for pedestrians at any time. I've seen in Spain that zebra markings were removed for crossings with traffic lights, so maybe this is becoming more of a standard in other places too.
