Well, to me, "type of ownership" suggests values such as "freehold"; 
"leasehold"; "rented", which I _don't_ think is what is intended.
I think we should avoid the word "type" if at all possible.

some point to differentiate. It certainly doesn't follow linguistically. 
Without already knowing this is the convention, using "type of" to 
differentiate between specific owner and type of owner/ownership seems entirely 
legitimate to me.
