As any live operative system, the system boots from your external device
and it's loaded in the RAM. So by itself it won't remove Windows 10.

In short: Yes, only when you have the USB/DVD/CD inserted it will run.
Like any installation disc, a live operative system will be booted as
long as:
1) You have it in the disc tray / USB port / Network resource path and
either
2.a) the priority of the DVD/CD tray or USB port is higher than your
HDD/SSD in the BIOS boot order (configurable in the BIOS setup) or
2.b) you manually choose the DVD/CD/USB in the boot menu
Usually, the default boot order in the BIOS is Diskette > DVD/CD >
HDD/SSD > USB > Network, with the possibility of USB and/or Network to
be missing. This can be configured in your BIOS Setup Menu.
If 1 is not fulfilled, then when doing 2, it will either fail with a
black screen (which you can safely power off or reboot the PC) if the
was no system to boot up in any of the other boot locations or it will
boot on the HDD/SSD instantly after, after a few seconds or after user
input like ENTER key.
The BIOS Setup Menu key is BIOS dependent but it can be F1, F2, F10 or
Del key. It usually says which one during the booting process.
The BIOS Boot Menu key is also BIOS dependent but it can be F8, F9, F12.
It usually says which one during the booting process or you can access
the boot menu on the BIOS setup menu as well.
