hi,

thanks a lot for this report, and sorry for the delay! Apparently we
missed it when we triaged all these 3.0~betaN test reports a couple
weeks ago.

Dots John:
> I plugged in 3 beta

I'll assume this means "Tails 3.0~beta4", given our previous discussion.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean: which menu and menu
item? What does "hang and need a force quit"?

I think our efforts would be better used reporting this problem
upstream, than implementing a workaround. I can help you do that once
we have the WhisperBack technical details :)

I have to say this annoys me to. Maybe we should raise it to the Tails
UX mailing list ([email protected]), where this new Greeter was
designed. Do you want to do it?

If you go this way, one recommendation: describe real-life situations
and problems, and keep requests and suggestions for later. UX and
design people are good at taking into account the experience you'll
describe *and* all the other aspect you and I are not aware of; so
even if most suggestions we would make will improve things for one use
case, chances are they'll make things worse in other use cases we
didn't think of :)

> REQUEST: Instead of filtering by language, allow listing by country.

Why would this change improve things in your opinion?

I don't know if that's doable anyway: the way keymaps are organized is
by language, which makes sense as the language, rather than the
country, defines which chars you need. Besides, given a country, you
cannot tell which language someone will want to type in.

We decided, on purpose, to switch to "natural scrolling". See details
there: https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/11969

The thing is, everyone has their own habits and preferences for this
kind of settings, so whatever we set as the default will make a number
of people unhappy. So we had to use other criteria than "N people
complain if we do X" to make our decision.

> - keyboard is not persistent: REQUEST: make keyboard persistent

That's a very frequent request:
https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/5501

I agree someone should do something about it :)

Pardon my ignorance, but: how does one calibrate a touchscreen or
trackpad in GNOME?

In passing, I wonder if that's a calibration problem, or just buggy
drivers. It would be interesting to search for bug reports about it on
other Linux distributions than Tails :)

What triggers this crash/freeze?

If we knew the exact name of the missing firmware, we could ask for it
to be included in Debian (non-free, probably) so we can install it in
Tails. Can you please give me this info?

I very much hope this is solved in Tails 3.0~rc1 :)
Can you please try & report back?

I find this goal very well chosen, thanks for working on it :)

Cheers,
