I didn't see any intention to provoke in Nick's email just a statement of fact. 
 
No one would dispute that Liz has done some great mapping over the years and  
it 
would be fantastic if she kept her data in OSM. But if she and others are 
determined to pull their data out then I agree with Nick that its not the end 
of 
the world.   As Liz points out some of the mapping she has done is in out of 
the 
way places that people rarely go to.  Maybe we could encourage some locals in 
those out of the way places to map their own areas including the data that's 
important to their community and their local businesses.

Was there any particular reason to throw this almighty "fuck you" out
there? Just trying to cause a lot of anger, or was there some sort of
productive intent that I missed?
