Hey Steve,
My friend and I are having some success with the instructions on that
page, i may add something to it that's a bit more of a step-by-step
guide. We're both running Ubuntu, but most of the tools seem cross
platform.
I did all of this on debian systems so it should work fine on Ubuntu. I
think everything will run under windows as well.
Having trouble figuring out the config for osm2shp, any tips?
I've never used osm2shp, I've been passing everything through
postgis with shp2psql and psql2shp.
I can see the MB data in OpenJUMP, which is pretty impressive, it looks good!
I don't see any names on these roads, do you know how i would tell if
there are any or not?
If you download the GML version of the road data you can look at it with
a text editor. If all of the elements with '*name*' in their name are
blank then there are no road names (The geobase site lists Manitoba as not
having road names).
Thanks for all your help and hard work, you're really blazing a trail
for the rest of us.
Cheers,
Jonathan

I have just joined the list, and am really impressed with your work on
Alberta, Steve.
Do you have a link or brief instructions on how you are doing the
import? I am particularly interested in Manitoba, as I live in
Winnipeg, and have the most knowledge of this province. I would like
to help the efforts.
See if you can follow the instructions at
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Geobase_NRN_-_OSM_Map_Feature
The Geobase data for Manitoba might not include road names, I'm working on a
procedure that will allow the geobase2osm script to pull in the road names
from the StatsCan dataset. I hope to be able to publish something this
weekend.
Let me know if you have any questions.
It is great to see others working on the import as well.

Good job Steve ! I am impressed. Jean-Sébastien is working in Southern
Quebec. I will try to help him and contribute in the same province.

Now that I've finished importing the roads in Albera I'm deciding on the
next region I'll tackle.
Is anyone else actively working on importing roads? (I know John has
been
working in south-western Ontario). I don't want to duplicate efforts.
I am considering:
-Nova Scotia
-British Columbia
-Some sections in Ontario
If anyone is working on (or has been thinking of getting started on) any
of
these drop me a note.
