I think I would have gone the other way round given the unhyphenated street sign appears to be newer than the hyphenated one suggesting that is the current preferred form. That said the 1886, 1968 and 1973 OS sheets use the unhyphenated form: https://maps.nls.uk/view/229915491 https://maps.nls.uk/view/188666917 https://maps.nls.uk/view/188666920 While current OS data seems to be hyphenated as you say!
