Hi,
I am not aware of any "offline" apps that allow you to populate them,
with a subset of the world raw data set, which can then render a map
for you. But this is what you would be looking for. If you are very
technically proficient, you could run your own map server on your
local machine (Mapnik renderer, Apache web server + mod_tile, PostGIS
database, and a downloaded subset of the raw data) but this is quite a
bit of effort for weekend driving :-)
I'd really recommend you just use it online (we are, after all, in
2012) - your smartphone or (better yet) tablet makes a nifty map
viewer - unless you're up for the challenge of hosting your own map
server as per above.

Hi Tomas,
I want to be able to view the data offline ( possibly raw data )
I like to take drives on weekends, to see new places
So having an offline map, on my laptop, I can look at alternate
routes, and also places to see
I am from Durban, driving anywhere in KZN should not take much more
than 3 hrs, which is perfect for a day of driving and site seeing

What do you mean by "OSM map"? Raw data? Some product created from
raw data (say garmin map, printable map etc.)?
And what do you suggest I need to Display/Use the Data
What do you want to do with the data?
