Darrell,
The Read to End issue might be caused by a hot key conflict. After assigning
Control-Shift-Enter as my hot key for Read To End via the Window-Eyes Control
Panel, I was able to perform a Read To End successfully in my Google Docs
document. I got some repeated text at the end of the document which isn't ideal
but got similar results when testing with other screen readers. This was on a
Windows 8.1 PC running Firefox 35.01 and Window-Eyes 9. Regarding headings,
Google Docs provides its own functions for working with headings. There are
navigation options under the Accessibility menu, Headings pull down as well as
layered keyboard shortcuts for heading navigation. This will be a reoccurring
theme when working in web applications. Instead of trying to use Browse Mode
functions that are designed for conventional static web pages, you will instead
need to use the built in functions and keyboard shortcuts provided by the web
application developer that work best with Browse Mode turne
 d off.
Regards,
Marc

Something that I have noticed, is that you can't do a read to end in
google docks. Also, when you do headings, window-eyes does not let you
navigate by headings.

Hi Richard,
The option of using ESC to re-enable Browse Mode was turned off by default
for me. I turned it on in the control panel and then tested the steps you
suggested. My experience was similar to yours. After I turned on Browse Mode
with ESC, I then hit Up Arrow a few times. Then I turned Browse Mode off
with Control-Shift-A and could not resume editing in the document area. I
could use TAB to return to the document area, but at that point, I was not
getting accurate speech output when navigating with my Arrow keys. With that
being said, I wanted to share some additional insight that should help you
overcome this problem.
First, if you refresh the web page using the Firefox shortcut of F5,
everything starts working again as expected. After I refreshed the web page,
Browse Mode turned off automatically, screen reader support mode was
automatically enabled, and I was able to read and edit the document with no
issues. All punctuation read for me when navigating by character and
punctuation was ignored when reading by line. I would suggest you use this
simple work around anytime you accidentally turn on Browse Mode and get
stuck in Google Docs.
Second, Google Docs is a dynamic web application that is designed to be
completely accessible and usable without enabling Browse Mode. So, there
shouldn't be any need to turn Browse Mode on when using Google Docs and
therefore you shouldn't have to deal with this issue under normal operation.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Mark:
I am definitely not hearing punctuation when I type it or cursor over it.
Just as a test, what happens if you hit ESCAPE to activate Browse mode and
then use the up or down arrow? If I arrow down I find the link that says
Screen reader mode is active, or something like that. If I then use
CTRL-SHIFT-a to toggle Browse mode off, I am no-longer in the edit area of
the document.
CTRL-ALT-z first toggles screen reader mode off.
  I am using WIN 7HP with FF 35.0.1 and Window-Eyes 9.0.0.

   Thanks.

Hi Richard,

I am using Windows 8.1, Firefox 35.01 and Window-Eyes 9. I have all screen
punctuation turned off (globally) and all keyboard punctuation turned on
(globally). When I get into Google Docs, the screen reader support mode
turns on automatically. If it doesn't, the hot key to toggle this feature is
Control-Alt-Z. Once it is enabled, I am hearing punctuation as I type and
when I cursor by character. When I navigate to a line of text with Up or
Down Arrow, Window-Eyes does not announce the punctuation and honors my
screen punctuation settings. Not sure why you are getting the results you
are but wanted to let you know I cannot duplicate the issue with the
settings and environment listed above. I am also able to turn Browse Mode
on manually with Control-Shift-A and then turn it off again without issue.
For me, the insertion point stays in the document regardless of the state of
Browse Mode and as soon as Browse Mode is turned off, I am able to begin
working in the document area ag
ain. On a side, note, there is a Enable Braille support option under the
settings pull down in the Accessibility menu of the Google Docs toolbar
(Alt-Shift-A). If I turn this option on, I get the best possible experience
in speech tool. I hope you find this info helpful.

Regards,
Marc

Subject: Window-Eyes 9 and Google Drive

Hello listers:
I have just been tooling around with Google Drive and Window-Eyes 9.
Below are my observations based on a very brief test:
1. For me, Window-Eyes does not read punctuation, either when I type it,
cursor over it or when I backspace over it.
2. I'm not sure whether it is Window-Eyes or Google Drive but at times
there appears to be a phantom extra space between words.
3. Upon hitting escape, I seem to have gone into browse mode which doesn't
allow me to edit the current document. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way
to get back into "edit" mode. I did try CTRL-SHIFT-a which perportedly took
me out of Browse mode but I still was not able to edit my document. Tabbing
did little to help. There is no "edit" on the page so I was unable to use
the quick-nav method of finding the edit box and returning to "edit" mode.

If anyone can point out my ignorance, on this issue only, or give me tips
I would greatly appreciate it.

  Thanks in advance.

Richard G Applegate
