Set the keyboard voice to on with characters. Make sure if you have advance options enabled ( you'll have 13items in the tree) that your scope button is set to global and not program when bringing up the Window-eyes control panel. For example, Press control-backslash. Press K until you get to keyboard. Right arrow to open it. Down arrow to voice. Tab once, if you hear voice program scope button, press space until it says global. Tab again and set it to on with characters and save your settings. For those programs where your voice isn't speaking characters, you may need to open them and make sure the scope button is set to global and not program. Save your settings.

The worst part of it is, I can't remember just how I managed to get WE to speak characters when typing, and have the setting apply globally, as well as staying set. I have tried using the insert-1 key, and saving the setting, and also going to the settings menu in keyboard options and setting it there and typing ctrl-s, which I also did when doing the first mentioned thing, and it just wont stay put. Does anybody have any ideas as to what to do? I'm really pulling my hair out over this one.
