Just install classic shell. This will give you more control over your start menu. This includes where the search box is. For example I am running windows 10. I am using classic shell. The search box is focused if I press tab from the start menu. This means I see all of my menu options and the search box is out of my way unless I want it buy tabbing over to it. This gives you the best of both worlds. Hth
