Personally, I wouldn't want F8 to be ditched for the old way. At times it's
very handy. But for me it's annoying when I'm bouncing around between
standard windows and those which use browse mode because I have to stop and
think for that fraction of a second about which selection method to use
depending on where I am.

And if you don't like F8, it's a hot key. So you can define it to an easier
key or combination. I use Alt-semicolon to make it more efficient by keeping
my hands in the natural position on the keyboard.
