If you go into "Services", right click "Windows Update," and select "Disable," it's the same as not allowing Windows 8.1 and earlier to automaticly prompt, download, and install updates. Before I knew this, it was the reason I almost gave up on Windows 10, but once I discovered this solution, I would never go back to an earlier version of Windows because it has a start menu like Windows 7 and optimizes solid state drives like Windows 8 and 8.1.
