David, 
Combo boxes and tree views have different keyboard interaction models. If a 
combo box, also known as a drop down, is closed, you can press Alt-Down Arrow 
to open it. Sighted users open these drop downs so they can see all available 
options at once. You can do the same, but since screen readers can only 
announce one option at a time, it doesn't provide much benefit. But, sometimes 
opening a combo box might make it read more accurately as you arrow through the 
options. When you select an option, with Enter, the combo box closes. You can 
then Tab to the next form control. This all assumes the combo box was written 
according to HTML specifications.
