Mark, in my present experience, pressing enter doesn't close the box as
it should. I think we may have a problem here.

David,
Combo boxes and tree views have different keyboard interaction models. If a
combo box, also known as a drop down, is closed, you can press Alt-Down Arrow
to open it. Sighted users open these drop downs so they can see all available
options at once. You can do the same, but since screen readers can only
announce one option at a time, it doesn't provide much benefit. But, sometimes
opening a combo box might make it read more accurately as you arrow through the
options. When you select an option, with Enter, the combo box closes. You can
then Tab to the next form control. This all assumes the combo box was written
according to HTML specifications.

Marc

I don't use the website you are on, but just want to confirm one detail
in your experience.
Since the new browse mode, I often hear the word "close", when arrowing
through comboboxes on different sites. Next time I come across this, I
will provide the site in question. What puzzles me a bit, is that
pressing the Right-Arrow, which would be natural when the word "closed"
was spoken - since it could indicate some kind of a menu-like concept,
nothing happens. Why would it say "closed", all the time things cannot
be expanded? And, is it possible to have an expandable combobox? What
would the benefit of such be? If none of this, WHY does it say "Closed"?
Never saw this under the old browse mode, but that might be coincident.

Hi there,
I'm just wondering if anybody has, or has had a problem getting combo
boxes to speak when arrowing through the letters on the BARD site. In
order to know what letter I am on, I have to tab down to the go
button, then tab back up, where I hear the letter as well as the word
"closed."
This probably has a simple answer, but I have tried everything I can
think of to try, pressing enter, doing the old trick of pressing
alt-up or down arrow, space bar, but nothing seems to work toward
letting me arrow through and hear each letter spoken.
Using WE 9.4 and Windows 10.
Thanks,
Larry
