Larry, I'd like to re-assert that I am really behind the WE learning curve
and for all I knew, Alt-down arrow may have been a new app keystroke. I am
sorry if I came off as patronizing. Any time I respond to the list members'
issues, I always include my keystrokes and the steps I took, along with the
results. I always respond assuming a Window-Eyes newbie is reading our
correspondence and might not know what we're talking about.

Anyway, I mentioned the BARD web page specifically because the NLS pages
have been very accessible for me personally. Now, the LakeCo.IN.gov web
page...that's another story. Had to do quite a tap dance to pay my property
taxes on line. Good thing they're in charge of enforcing accessibility.
<smile>.

Take care,
Lou N.

Subject: Re: Combo boxes on the BARD site

Larry,
The intention of my last email was two fold:
1. Confirm that Lou provided the correct techniques for interacting with
combo boxes
2. Clarify that Alt-Down is not the correct technique for navigating choices
in a combo box
In your defense, there is a known issue in Window-Eyes related to combo
boxes. This issue is not consistent but happens enough to be a pretty big
annoyance. I regret not presenting this information before going on my rant
about proper techniques. If you were in any way offended by my recent
correspondence, I sincerely apologize.
Sincerely,
Marc

>> Hi Lou,

that the author combo box on BARD is working well for you and others when
using the correct techniques. The steps you listed in your message follow
best practices for interacting with combo boxes. And, I wanted to clarify
that these keyboard techniques are not tied directly to Window-Eyes. This
keyboard support (i.e. Alt-Down to open, Up/Down or first letter navigation
to change selection, Enter to close) is built right into the combo box
control and web browser whether you are using a screen reader or not.
Holding down Alt while Down Arrowing is not the correct technique for
navigating through the options in a combo box and is not a Window-Eyes
feature.
