Chris,
As I think I have made quite clear in my previous posts to Rod, I have
no problem doing what is necessary to assure that I have indeed selected
an entire word unit using f8, that is moving from the first letter of
the word to the last character and once again pressing f8. I will take
f8 on its own turns. But It is been proven to me by my own hand that in
text editors or word processors, that using ctrl-right or left arrow,
while maybe appearing to only select or unselect the first letter,
actually select the entire word, and that can be proven simply by
copying what has been selected and placing it at the end of the
document, and taking a look at your work.
Again, technically, you may indeed be right, but for all intents and
purposes, the entire word unit is selected.
I am not demanding a change when it comes to f8, all though I really
would find it more convenient to be able to by default, select an entire
word unit, rather than just the first letter, because that is usually
what is meant by using the ctrl-shift arrow keys when editing as
normally excepted standard procedure.
As I've indicated, this isn't the proverbial show-stopper, just a
relatively minor irritation.
Indeed, if most users of this method have no problem with the present
state of affairs, I am willing to concede my minority status and get on
with the rest of my life <smile>.
Have a great day, and keep up your great work,
Larry

Hi Chris,
Yes, your point is well made and taken, and yet Larry's point is that with
the normal selection method accomplished using Shift and the arrow keys,
words are selected as one navigates to them.
Personally, I've come to develop some memory cues in order to remind myself
what I'm doing and in which context.
It's still easy to get confused, though. smile
Best,
Rod

This is standard behavior when using control-left and control-right in any
text editor.
Your cursor lands on the first character of the word.
When you use f8 you are placing a marker where your cursor is. Pressing f8
the second time places the second marker where your cursor is. If it is in
the beginning of the word or middle it selects between the two points.

Well Pam, here is an example. I just copied from a message about an up
coming Internet radio show, using f8 and this is how it came out after I
used the right arrow with the control keys to highlight words.
"After a two-week absence, I'm back with my top Shelf Oldies s."
That last word is supposed to be show. Now if I continue arrowing without
holding down the ctrl key, I can take in the whole word, but not when using
the ctrl key.
As in some other cases, this isn't a show stopper, just an inconvenience. I
can live with it, just wish I didn't have too <smile>.
