Hi Davy, Just to clarify, we didn't need NVDA until after the update was installed and the computer rebooted. And, most users were able to install the update without any issues or need for NVDA. Ai Squared has a beta testing team that vets all new versions of Window-Eyes before they are released to the public. But, it is impossible to account for all possible combinations of hardware and software being used by the Window-Eyes community. So, issues showing up after a release are bound to happen. That is the nature of software. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Best, Marc

One question I have not meant as critics: maybe if this package had been betatested, the less problems people should have encountered. I am sure that for advanced windows users like you and me, it is only a little annoyance but we will overcome, but for maybe some beginners this is really difficult stuff. One was a Windows 7 desktop and the other was a Windows 10 laptop. I always go to the update website and download the installer instead of choosing the option that runs the update as soon as it is downloaded. Using this strategy seems to lessen the chance of issues but does not eliminate them altogether. For example, after installing the update on the Windows 7 PC and rebooting, Window-Eyes was not reading anything useful. It wouldn't read the Desktop, Start Menu or Window-Eyes control panel. It would only echo keystrokes when they were pressed. We then launched NVDA just so we could restart the PC. After the second reboot, Window-Eyes came up talking and everything was working as expected. The update went flawlessly on the Windows 10 laptop. No issues at all.
