I tried the way listed in the first link I sent yesterday, and it's even simpler. Smile.
Items don't have to be de-selected first. To get a simple list view, similar to file explorer with no details, simply press control-shift 5. If you want more details, the size of the shortcut for example, Press control-shift 6. If you want your original view back (medium icons), press control-shift 3.
