Hi Lary: That is about what I do when things slow down or lock up as well and, of course, alt-tab often works. To try and figure out what is going on would require, at best, using the Windows Tools but I have been struggling to figure out how to read and use them using WindowEyes. I have gotten a little in some of them but they are dynamic and loaded into the Microsoft Management Console as snapins. The Management Console is layed out as a 2 sided window, usually hidden and running things behind the scenes. When it is visible as in the case of the system logs and the Performance Monitoring and Counters I can tab around, f6 and otherwise just navigate blindly not knowing if something being read is a tab, box, list or custom view of something and the Management Console tools are themselves prone to locking up, actually WindowEyes locking up, and WindowEyes also not recognizing its state it seems after working in it for a little and trying to open and close features inside it as these features UI elements are changed and disposed or hidden. I have been able to sometimes use the mouse, sometimes, to read things that the normal arrow and tab keys wont read but headings in some of the controls are not being read so so far I don't know what some buttons, table elements in a list etc... do if I click them - not good at this level of sensitivity of managing my machines operating system. This may also a problem for WindowEyes while we are working in something like Internet Explorer, NotePad or even just on the Desktop. WE may be trying to respond to window messages loaded for the hidden window, grabbing focus or at least WE attention for some time, and thus WE losing focus, trying to read something that isnt there in the hidden window or just floundering around trying to figure out how to handle window messages not related to what us as users are doing at any given time - again, just don't know. I wonder if anyone has ever seen any documentation on how to use WindowEyes with the various system tools like the LogFiles and Performance monitoring tools and reports. Anyway, this could be behind a host of intermittent and almost impossible to describe slowdowns, lockups and hickups folks have found using WindowEyes over the years - just don't know but symptoms would seem to fit. To you guys who know WE filters messages that is not the beginning and end of message processing and it may even be bypassed or details not provided in a way the WE model can handle - ya, again, I don't know sigh. Later Lary and good hunting! Rick USA
