That totally makes sense, because all other screenreaders I have on all my computers i.e. JAWS, NVDA both read the list of messages propperly. One might ask why not just use those if it gets the job done? My answer? Old habbits die hard. You like the way a certain screenreader does stuff, so you stick with it as long as you can.

Window Eyes still does everything I need it to do and probably will quite a way in the future. The issue with reading or not reading emails in ThunderBird is not a Window Eyes issue. It is, or was a script in ThunderBird. Bugs can happen with any program as we all know.
