Debra,

I now use Office 2013 in Windows 10 and find that when opening files from
email, the document does first display in a read only mode--which is pretty
much unreadable with WE, JAWS or NVDA. This is a behavior I did not
experience when using Office 2010 in Windows 7.

After opening the document, in most cases, pressing the F6 key (once and
sometimes twice) will present a dialog that reads as follows. If you aren't
expecting it and if you don't actively try to find it by using the F6 key,
it doesn't display--at least it hasn't for me. Here's how the dialog box
reads:

"Be careful-email attachments can contain viruses. Unless you need to edit,
it's safer to stay in Protected View. Link"
Below this statement, there are two controls:
* Enable Editing Button
* Close this message Button

If you select the "enable editing" control by pressing enter when you land
on it, you can read and work in the document. And, once you have saved the
document, it should remain in edit mode at any point you retrieve it in the
future.

Hope this works well for you.

Subject: Read Only

Hi,

It seems my MS Word documents have been made into read only. Can someone
tell me how to change this so I can read the document? I am using Windows
10 with WE 9.54 and MS Office 2013.

Thanks much!

Be blessed!

Deborah
