There surely would be differing opinions on what grades give, but it's hard to imagine that there generally would be as much difference as you suggest - same road being viewed as either poor or good. Grading probably works better, when its mostly done by people who know the subject well - as I guess would be the case here. Anyway, for grading to work, good guidelines would be a must. It would be interesting to see some experimenting to happen with grading. That would be the best way to find out how it works :-) Not to be misunderstood, I don't think that widespread grading of things would work well (if it would work well at all). If taken to use, it probably should be applied only to some selected objects, and after discussion.
