If you look at the actual values you will find that lots of them don't even allow to view any image, they seem to refer to local files (see all those 80n-pictures). http://taginfo.openstreetmap.de/keys/image#values this one for instance (one of the first that contained a complete link) isn't available: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/5/5a/K%C3%B6nig_Ludwig_Hinweis.JPG I hardly found any working link in the values that provided useful information. It is unlikely that many of the now linked images will be still valid urls in 10 years time.
