It has been suggested on IRC that they used GeoNames, which does sometimes have very-strange-but-not-completely-wrong names. I checked the edits history and it wasn't under any of those tags, but it would make sense to add it as loc_name, as people might sometimes use Madriles in their search queries and such. :) But it's not a name you'd want to display on a serious map.
