I have tired the automatic ip address option or dhcp and the only difference
was the error invalid server name came up in 2 seconds instead of ten
seconds. The phone access point was using wep for as I told the branch
manager running an open wireless network is not an option more should it
have to be. I will try the laptop type connection when I get the phone back
on the air. I decided to format the phone because apart from the network
problem. When I opened the talks window often the e72 would beep but no
error message was spoken. I've never heard that before but figured the
install must have gone a bit strange.

Hi,
A couple of suggestions.
Firstly are you saying that your phone connected to another phone running
as
an access point?
Try temporarily disabling security on your wireless network, can you
connect
now?
I have my wireless channel set to auto and I don't have any problems.
Try using your phone as a dhcp client, is your phone listed in the
router's
list of devices?
Can you establish an add hock link between your phone and your laptop?
What router are you using? Is there updated firmware for it?

Stephen or any other persons with technical knowledge on the list.
When I took my e72 back to nokia today instead of using a normal LAN they
used a phone running either walking hotspot or the other similar package
to
show me their is no problem. the branch manager lames there is no
difference between hotspots. The problem is it still won't connect to
web
addresses via a LAN but seemed to work perfectly when a phone is used as a
hotspot. as they used an automatic ip address I tried that when I got
home
but still no joy yet my laptop works perfectly via the same wireless
network. I tried 2 different wifi networks on the weekend which would not
work as well as 2 public free wifi hotspots at Sydney airport one
servicing
the domestic terminal and the second the international terminal.
These did not work either. I've since removed the sim card and formatted
the phone a few times. When I heard it work using the phone hotspot I
was
very pleased thinking the problem had gone away but no so now I am at a
loss. I am going to go to my local pc shop tomorrow I will ask the guy
there to see if he can connect the phone to his network after he sets the
date and time on the phone. If my laptop did not work on my wlan then my
LAN would be at fault. The nlkia branch manager told me to change the
channel on the router as it might help but as the phone and router talk to
each other I'm sure that's not the issue but I did try it with no effect.
the only difference I know of between phone hotspots and routers is one
uses
addhock while the other uses public. perhaps the latest e72 software uses
a
different default setting in that field and it has to be changed. Another
thing I plan on doing if I can find someone with an optus sim who will let
me borrow it for a few seconds then hopefully the protected telstra
destinations may be removed.
The branch manager refused to use a router based LAN saying their is no
difference between a phone hotspot and a LAN.
