Unlike other dance music, tango does not rely on drums to communicate its beat. Rather, the beat is inside the orchestra, shared by all the instruments. We'll take you inside a tango orchestra and share the secrets of tango musicians and arrangers. Through rhythmic exercises, counting, clapping, and stepping on and off the beat, you'll discover the elusive nature of tango rhythm. After these workshops you will never hear tango music the same way! Victor Crichton will be teaching two intermediate level tango workshops on Saturday, August 2nd. The focus of these classes will be dancing to the music using the elements of improvisation on the social dance floor. Pablo Aslan, the bassist and the co-director of New York Tango Quartet, will be teaching a musicality workshop for dancers on Sunday, August 3rd, following the Saturday's festivities.
